Assistant Counselor '16

“ I improved my intercultural communication skills significantly by

corresponding between American counselors and Chinese campers. It's all about considering two different perspectives.”

—  Zhujin(Shirley) Chen, Tsinghua University '20

Who Are ACs

Assistant counselors (AC) are facilitators. They bridge the language and culture gap between American counselors and Chinese campers. Recruited mostly from top language & foreign study programs in China and overseas, they make up TSC’s bilingual staff and practice their intercultural skills both inside and outside the classroom.

If it sounds like you, read on!

What do ACs do?

After training, you'll be paired up with an American counselor. Here's a sample of what you can expect to experience and accomplish with your American counterpart:

  • Supervise campers to ensure campers' physical and academic well-being.

  • Facilitate the personal adjustment of campers to the TSC community.

  • Assist counselors to execute TSC daily workshops and camp activities.

  • Provide translation for both American counselors and Chinese campers.

  • Support camp supervisors on camp daily operation.

  • Create social media content featuring camp events and campers.
